My opinion on this movie based on the novel written by John Marsden is nothing like the book. I found it lost most of the key information in all the action and explosions. The book was way better than the movie because I could imagine everything and i guess the movie was just not what i expected. I would have thought that they would have a lot of scenes in hell because that there main base camp really but there only was a couple of scenes
On a more positive note it was quite an action packed movie and is one of the better Australian films made. I enjoyed the movie but I think that it could have been improved on many ways like if they added the parts that they missed from the book like the Hermit and If the actors were more like the book. If you could see Homer gradually change from the idiot he was into the strategic warrior and leader he becomes. in the movie it seemed he just clicked and rapidly evolved. I thought that Chris should have been smarter than he was in the movie and I also felt he should have been braver. I think that Robyn should have been older because it looked like she was 10 years younger than everyone else.
I think that the rest of the characters were actually looked something and acted like the image I had thought they were while reading the book.
Some of the main differences that I picked up on between the book and the film were that Keven's dog Flip lived in the movie but in the book was killed by the explosion that blew up Corries house. Also that there was no mention of Hermit the man that murdered his child and wife and ran away and lived in hell alone forever. There were more difference but they didn't bothered me as much.
One of the reasons I loved the book is because they based it on an actual location in Australia and based the Hermit on the Old story that people tell about a man that actually killed his wife and child and ran away and when and lived in the bush. The location that this story was based on was the Terrible Hollow in the Australian Alps, the Devils Staircase and the crosscut Saw. All in Australia.
When I herd that there was going to be a second movie based on the second book The Dead Of Night I think that the director of this movie will base it off the book more. All the reviews that I've seen have all pretty much said what i am saying now. So I recon if they do base it off of the book more it will be a stand out movie.
I think in the movie that they group of 6 will go and find Keven and Corrie and also attempt to save the town who are stuck in the show grounds.
All in all it is a great Aussie move that many families will like. There is many faults but I think if I was to watch the movie before the book it would be in the 90% range.
